Laundry may be one of your least favorite household chores. Fortunately, there are a lot of machines to choose from that make the job easier. If you selected a Whirlpool, you may already know you have purchased a top-rated brand and one of the few brands still made in the USA.

You were most likely told that a front load washer would give you a superior clean to its top load counterpart, while also using much less water.

Yet, when taking your load out of the washer, you noticed that the fabric does not feel quite clean. You may think your clothing needs to be washed again. With the next load, you decide to add more detergent.

Detergent is the Cause

You may be using too much detergent. A knowledgeable salesperson or an experienced repair technician will advise you to use a high-efficiency (HE) detergent and use half the amount recommended by the detergent manufacturer.

Since the washing machine uses much less water for washing and rinsing, you need to use less detergent, so all of the product is rinsed from your fabrics.

In soft water

  • Use a tablespoon of HE detergent in a regular size load. Use just a bit more for a larger load and a bit less for a smaller load of clothes.

In hard water

  • If you have hard water, you should use a bit more detergent. Do not use any more than two tablespoons of detergent for a large load.

Using too much laundry detergent will leave residue in your fabrics and the foam will collect behind the drum of the unit. You can’t see it, but the soap left behind is a breeding ground for mold. This is the cause of the notorious smell that develops in most front load washing machines.

New Whirlpool Features

If it’s time to replace your front load machine, Whirlpool offers two dispensing systems to take the guesswork out of detergent usage, and give you the proper amount of detergent with every load.

Load & Go™

  • Your new Whirlpool 4.5 cu ft washer may have a Load & Go™ system. The Load and Go™ bulk dispenser cartridge holds enough detergent to complete up to 12 loads of laundry without having to measure the detergent for each load. It dispenses according to the weight of your load, giving you the right amount of detergent every time.

Dosing Aid

  • In Whirlpools compact washing machines, Whirlpool offers a dosing aid feature. This feature allows you to calibrate the amount of detergent you use based on the load size and soft or hard water. You have less chance of using too much detergent.

Whether you have a new machine or are relying on an older unit, your washer may require service to stay running efficiently. It is important to make sure the drum stays balanced and that all systems are working properly. For expert care of your appliances contact Appliance Express in Austin and San Antonio, Texas.
