Samsung makes a range of great dryers that are known for their longevity and dependability. However, over time, dryer components can wear out and cause the dryer not to spin. In most cases, the drive belt that rotates the drum will need to be replaced to fix the issue. Worn drum rollers, glides, and bearings are also common causes of the issue. Other less likely causes include a defective idler pulley or drive motor. Read on to diagnose and replace the defective part.

On most models, you will need to remove the top and front panels on the dryer to access the components that are likely causing the dryer to not spin.
It is recommended to wear work gloves when accessing the dryer to protect your hands and absorb small electric shocks. While you should always turn the power off, some dryer components may still retain some electricity that work gloves should protect against.
You should now be able to access the various components that may be causing the dryer not to spin.
The most common reason why the dryer will not spin is a broken or worn-out drive belt. The drive belt works with the idler pulley and the drive motor to rotate the dryer drum. To check and replace the drive belt, the top and front panels will need to be removed. If the belt is worn or broken, it will need to be replaced.
Rollers inside the dryer support the drum and help it to rotate. Some models have two or more rollers that support the rear of the drum. Other models may have two extra rollers to support the front of the drum as well. If a roller or its axle wears out, the drum will struggle to turn, and it will likely cause a squeaking sound.
To check and replace the rollers and axles, the top and front panels will need to be removed. You should find the front rollers on the front bulkhead. The rear rollers can be accessed once the drum has been removed from the dryer. If you find that a roller is damaged, it is best to replace all of the rollers at the same time.
Depending on the model, the dryer may feature plastic glides that support the front of the drum. If a glide is damaged or worn out, the drum will struggle to rotate. To check the drum glides, the top and front panels will need to be removed. Once you have removed the front panel, turn the panel around to locate the drum glides. Check the condition of the drum glides and replace all four if necessary.
Most Samsung dryers have a rear drum bearing and a retainer to support the drum. If the bearing is worn out, the drum will have difficulty rotating. A worn drum bearing will put pressure on the drive motor, which may cause the drum to stop spinning during a cycle. Like a defective roller, a worn-out bearing may also make a squeaking sound. The bearing can be checked and replaced by removing the front panel and the dryer drum.
The idler pulley puts tension on the drive belt to rotate the dryer drum. If the idler pulley is defective, the drum will not turn. Remove the front panel to check the idler pulley. If the idler pulley is working correctly, you should be able to easily spin it. If the idler pulley appears to be defective, replace it.
The drive motor is responsible for turning the drive belt to rotate the drum. The drive motor also rotates the blower wheel. If the dryer is humming but the drum is not turning, it indicates that the drive motor is defective. If the drum cannot be turned manually, it further indicates that the drive motor may need to be replaced.
If the drive belt, idler pulley, drum rollers, bearings, and glides are not defective, the drive motor will likely need to be replaced. The drive motor can be tested with a multimeter for resistance. However, this is usually more complicated than a standard multimeter test, so it is best left to a trained professional.
