Whirlpool Recalls Jenn-Air Wall Ovens

While being in the midst of summer means that fewer homeowners will be baking, it is still important to be aware of current oven recalls so that you will have a safe and functioning oven when you need it next. The fact is that the holidays are right around the corner, and you will likely be doing a lot of baking in the coming months. If you have a Jenn-Air wall oven, you should be aware of a recent recall of Jenn-Air wall ovens due to a potential burn risk. Here is everything you need to know about this recall.
The Recalled Units
The recall, which Whirlpool Corporation first announced on July 29, 2015, affects roughly 33,000 single and double wall oven as well as combination microwave/wall ovens. The affected units were sold at Sears, Pacific Sales, and other stores nationwide from March 2012 through June 2015 for between $2,500 and $5,000. The recall involves Jenn-Air branded wall ovens that have an extendable roller rack and were sold in stainless steel, oiled bronze, black, and white with the Jenn-Air logo affixed to the lower right corner of the oven door. The ovens that have been recalled have model numbers that begin with JJW2, JJW3, JMW2, and JMW3, as well as serial numbers beginning with D or F.
The Cause of the Recall
If you believe that yours is one of the affected ovens, then you may be wondering what the cause is for this recall. Whirlpool has recalled these ovens due to the fact that the extendable roller rack can unexpectedly disengage when fully extended, posing a potential burn risk to users. As of the time in which the recall was announced, Whirlpool Corporation had received eight reports of incidents involving these ovens, including one report of second-degree burns to a consumer’s arm and back.
Your Next Steps
Due to the serious nature of this recall, it is vital that you stop using your oven immediately if you believe that it is one of the recalled units. Your next step would then be to contact Whirlpool regarding the recall, as they will be able to provide a free in-home inspection and repair of your oven. While our skilled technicians have a great deal of experience servicing and repairing wall ovens, it is best to contact the manufacturer when dealing with recalls of any kind.
