How to Fix Samsung Washing Machine Error Code 4C

If your Samsung washing machine displays the 4C error code, it indicates an issue with the water supply. This problem can occur due to several reasons, such as closed water taps, faulty water hoses, blocked mesh filters, a dirty detergent tray, or the water pressure being too low.

To identify the root cause of the problem and resolve it, you can simply follow the steps in this guide. By the final step, the problem should be fixed and the error code should stop being displayed on the screen.

This guide should work for all major Samsung washing machines, including the following models:

Make sure the water is turned on

To begin troubleshooting the 4C error code on your Samsung washing machine, start by verifying that both the hot and cold water taps are turned on properly. If one or both taps are not fully open, it can adversely affect the water supply, leading to the 4C error code showing.

To rule out the taps as the underlying cause you need to:

  1. Make sure each tap is fully open and that the water is flowing through them. If you only require cold water for your washing machine, you can use a Y-connector to connect the hot and cold hoses.
  2. Once you’ve confirmed the water taps are turned on, check the water hoses.

Make sure the water hoses are working

After verifying the water taps are working correctly, the next step is to inspect the water hoses for defects. Kinks or blockages in the hoses prevent the proper flow of water into the washing machine, which causes the 4C error code to be activated.

To make sure the water hoses are working correctly, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the power supply to the washing machine.
  2. Carefully pull the washer away from the wall so you can access the hoses.
  3. Check the hoses for kinks or bends that could impede the flow of water into the washing machine. If you find any kinks or bends, you need to reposition the hoses. If the hoses are leaking, they need to be replaced.
  4. Next, ensure the hoses are tightly connected. Loose connections can affect the water valves inside the hoses, which will prevent water from flowing through them.
  5. If the hoses aren’t bent and the connections are tight, the next step is to clean out the hoses. This can be done by turning the water supply off and then disconnecting each hose. Once disconnected, run water through each hose to check for blockages. If blocked, use a piece of wire to remove any debris.
  6. Once the hoses are cleaned you can inspect the mesh filters.

Inspect the mesh filters

While the hoses are disconnected, it’s a good idea to check the mesh filters. The mesh filters are located where the water hose attaches to the washing machine. Their purpose is to stop debris from coming out of the washing machine and blocking the hoses. If the filter gets blocked, the water supply might stop flowing and the 4C error code might be activated in your Samsung washing machine.

To inspect the mesh filters, follow these steps:

  1. Remove each mesh filter. This can be done by unscrewing them.
  2. Once removed, check if the filter is clogged with dirt or other debris. If so, clean each one thoroughly.
  3. Once clean, screw the mesh filters back into position.
  4. Reattach the hoses to the washing machine and the water taps.

Clean the detergent tray

Once the hoses are reattached, the next step is to clean the detergent tray. It’s common for the detergent tray to become clogged with old detergent, which can prevent water from entering the washing machine. To avoid this from happening, make sure you use a high-efficiency (HE) detergent when using your washing machine. Using non-HE detergent can result in excessive suds, which may cause a build-up of detergent debris and/or prevent your washing machine from operating correctly due to excessive suds. The detergent tray can be cleaned with hot water and a cloth. Use a brush if need be to remove stubborn grime and debris.

Test the water pressure

The next step is optional. To test the water pressure, you need to have a pressure tester. If you don’t have one, proceed to the final step. Washing machines need the correct water pressure to function properly. The water pressure must be at least 20 pounds per square inch (psi). If the water pressure is lower than this, the washing machine may not be able to fill with water and may display the 4C error code.

To check the water pressure, attach the gauge to the taps and measure the pressure. If the water pressure is below 20 psi, you need to get a plumber to adjust it. If the pressure is correct, proceed to the final step.

Reset your washer

Once all the previous steps have been completed and any problems have been fixed, the final step is to reset your washing machine. Hopefully, once your washing machine is turned back on, the 4C error code will disappear.

To reset the washing machine, follow these steps:

  1. If the washing machine’s power is turned on, turn it off for a couple of minutes.
  2. After a couple of minutes, turn the washing machine power back on as well as the machine itself.
  3. Check if the 4C error code is still showing. If so, you need to seek the assistance of a qualified technician. If the error code is gone, you can start using your washing machine again!
