As summer winds down, there are still plenty of ways to get out and enjoy San Antonio, Texas with your family. Outdoor film and theater presentations are still going strong. There are still festivals to attend and kid’s races to be run. Best of all, most of these local events are free!

The area will open at 7PM and the movie begins shortly after dusk.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a free showing of the 1987 film La Bamba. This Family Film Series offering tells the story of Hispanic rock’n’roll singer Ritchie Valens. During the 1950s he had hit songs such as “Donna” but he died in a plane crash, along with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper. You are welcome to bring your own food, blankets, chairs and even pets!

This free event includes lots of music, art, and food. Plenty of kid’s activities are planned, including a moon bounce, games, and crafts. On Saturday kids can learn about the finer points of music during the Children’s Symposium. You can even worship with jazz music because on Saturday St. Mark’s Episcopal Church will offer a jazz mass.

Bring the kids to a live family friendly theater performance at this San Antonio green space. Professional actors will present Rumpelstiltskin. This is the last in a series of summer-long plays about classic literature and fairy tales. This event is free.

$10 per race or $35 for a five-week series

Encourage your kid to get fit at this fun race. Children join with others in their grade level and work to complete a course appropriate for their age. This is part of a five-week series that begins on September 24 and continues on Sundays in October. You can register for one race or all five. Kids who complete all five weeks receive a medal.

With so many fun activities going on in San Antonio, nobody wants to be stuck in the house nursing a broken dishwasher or refrigerator. If you are having trouble with your appliances, contact us and we will get you back on track.
