Dryer Repair

If your Electrolux dryer is showing an E64 error code, this means there is a problem with the heating circuit. When this occurs, your dryer isn’t able to heat properly during the cycle. Finding and fixing the underlying cause can be quite complex as it requires you to use a multimeter to test various components and, if faulty, replace them. The components that require testing include the heating element, thermal fuse, high-limit thermostat, and control board.

If you don’t have experience working with electrical components, you should call a technician to come and inspect your dryer.

All major Electrolux dryer models are covered by this guide, including:

Step 1 – test the heating element

The best place to start is to check the heating element. The heating element heats the air in your dryer, enabling it to operate correctly. However, if the element stops working properly, it could be responsible for the E64 error code.

Follow these instructions to test the heating element:

  1. Switch the power off to your dryer.
  2. To access the heating element, check your user manual to determine which panels need removing.
  3. Once you locate the heating element, use your multimeter to test if it has continuity.
  4. If it doesn’t have continuity, you will need to purchase and then replace the heating element. If it does have continuity, move on to step 2.
  5. Once installed, check if the E64 error code has stopped showing on the display screen. If so, you have successfully fixed your dryer, and you can start using it again. If the error code is still showing, move on to step 2.

Step 2 – test the thermal fuse

The next step is to test the thermal fuse. The purpose of the thermal fuse is to stop your Electrolux dryer from overheating. Testing the thermal fuse requires the same process as testing the heating element.

Follow these instructions to test the thermal fuse:

  1. Make sure the power to your dryer is switched off.
  2. If you haven’t already, remove the necessary panels off your dryer so you can access the thermal fuse (consult your user manual if required).
  3. Once you locate the thermal fuse, use your multimeter to test if it has continuity.
  4. If it doesn’t have continuity, you will need to purchase and then replace the thermal fuse. If it does have continuity, move on to step 3.
  5. Once the new fuse is installed, check if the E64 error code has stopped displaying on the screen. If so, you have successfully fixed your dryer, and you can start using it again. If the error code is still showing, move on to step 3.

Step 3 – test the high-limit thermostat

The next step is to test the high-limit thermostat in your Electrolux dryer. The purpose of the high-limited thermostat is to monitor the temperature in your dryer and then tell the main control board to switch your dryer off if it overheats. Sometimes, the high-limit thermostat can do this because it’s faulty and not because your dryer is overheating.

Follow these instructions to test the high-limit thermostat:

  1. Make sure the power to your dryer is switched off.
  2. If you haven’t already, remove the necessary panels off your dryer to access the high-limit thermostat (consult your user manual if required).
  3. Once you locate the high-limit thermostat, use your multimeter to test if it has continuity.
  4. If it doesn’t have continuity, you will need to purchase and then replace the thermostat. If it does have continuity, move on to step 4.
  5. Once the new thermostat is installed, check if the E64 error code has stopped showing on the display screen. If so, you have successfully fixed your dryer, and you can start using it again. If the error code is still showing, move on to step 4.

Step 4 – test or replace the control board

If inspecting the heating element, thermal fuse, and high-limit thermostat hasn’t resolved the E64 error code’s underlying cause, the next step is to test or replace the control board. Unfortunately, testing the control board is challenging and requires finding the specific diagnostic test for your particular dryer. You can obtain this information by checking your user manual or contacting Electrolux for instructions. Alternatively, consider calling a technician to inspect your appliance or purchasing a new dryer.
